Funky Time studio

As mentioned earlier, the Funky Time game show pays tribute to the iconic disco era, and the studio where the game takes place is pure evidence. There’s a retro club ambience with neon lights flickering all over the place and a funky beat to accompany you during the game. But that’s not all. A big wheel (DigiWheel) is at the centre of the floor with 64 segments. The wheel has LED panels and a disco ball in the middle; its main job is to award multipliers as the wheel spins.

Behind this wheel is where the different bonus rounds take place. They are the Bar Bonus, VIP Disco, Stayin’ Alive, and Disco bonuses. Below the wheel is the betting section, split into different options. There’s an option to bet on Number 1, any one letter on the wheel by clicking on an appropriate letter, or any one of the bonus games. You can also bet on all 12 letters at once or on all four bonuses at once.

Finally, there’s a statistics section at the bottom right of the screen, result history, and an Auto Play function. The Auto Play function allows you to bet on the same segments for a specified number of rounds.

Funky Time rules

The rules are simple in this game. Place a bet on a segment or segments on the wheel, hoping the wheel will stop on one of the segments you chose after the presenter spins the wheel. But there are two types of segments. One pays an instant win: the letters and the Number One segments. Other segments trigger a bonus round, where you can win a multiplier prize.

  • Bet sizes

Funky Time caters to the entire spectrum of players. Low rollers will be glad to learn that the minimum amount they can wager is $0.10, while high rollers can break the bank by placing $10,000, which is the maximum allowed bet. You can use betting chips located below the table. These chips range from $0.10 to $500. Note that you have 15 seconds to place your bet.

  • Random multipliers

After the betting period ends, the presenter will spin the wheel. As the wheel spins, the disco ball in the middle will generate random multipliers. These multipliers will fall on various wheel segments, and once the wheel stops and the flapper stops on a segment with a multiplier, you will receive a corresponding payout.

If you place a bet on the bonus round, the wheel multiplier will be multiplied by the bonus game outcome once the game round ends. But if you wager on the standard spots, you will receive a payout, which is their payout multiplied by the wheel multiplier.

  • Bet options

You have 15 seconds to place a bet on one of the 17 options in this game. These options are Number 1, any one of the 12 letters in the words (Time, Funk, and Play), or one of the four bonus rounds. These bonus rounds include VIP Disco, Bar Bonus, Stayin’ Alive, and Disco rounds.

Bar Bonus

Everyone has a favourite drink when kicking it at a bar. But in the Bar Bonus round, you have to pick one from the three glasses a robot bartender will offer you. Each glass is represented by a different colour; blue, yellow, and purple. Luck rules everything in this round. But if lady luck favours you, you’ll walk away with amazing multipliers, ranging from 2x to 20x.

It gets even better with the one-slot reel on the robot’s head, which spins and lands on yet another multiplier. This will happen after the bartender serves all the drinks. The robot will then pour the stirrer into one of the three glasses, where the multiplier will be added. Shake everything, which could serve one big cocktail worth 5000x.

Disco bonus

Can you dance? Because this round depends on how good your feet are on the dance floor. But if you’re not the best dancer around, Mr Funky will help you get your groove on as he steps on the floor filled with multipliers over 37 squares.

As Mr Funky grooves across the floor, he will collect multipliers. But you don’t want him to lose his footing while busting moves because this will terminate the round. The presenter will spin a wheel with eight segments to start this round. These segments display four directions, namely Right, Left, Up, and Down, which is where Mr Funky will dance towards based on where the wheel stops.

The VIP Disco bonus

If the Disco round didn’t get you up and dancing, the mother of all dancing floors will. The VIP Disco bonus round has a bigger floor, with 63 squares.

This bonus round is similar to the Disco bonus, only this time, you have better win potential because of the bigger dance floor. If Mr Funky lands one multiplier while showing off his moves, the multiplier value will be collected and added to the total bet. Indeed, these multiplier values are VIP grade, so look out for 50x, 250x, 500x, or if you’re lucky enough, there’s a 1500x multiplier.

Like the Disco round, you want Mr Funky to balance his feet throughout as toppling off the floor ends the round.

Stayin’ Alive bonus

If you’re looking for a big payday, this bonus round certainly delivers the goods. Up to 10,000x is up for grabs in the exciting Stayin’ Alive bonus. And the gameplay is as easy as pie. The game starts when you choose one of the three balls. You have orange, purple, and green balls. Note that you have only ten seconds to pick a ball, and if the time elapses without you choosing one, the system will pick for you.

A bingo ball machine and three ladders with colours matching the balls are the centre of attraction. These ladders have twenty levels, which is a similar format to what you’ll find in the Cash or Crash game also by Evolution. The ladder in that game has 20 steps, and you’ll earn bigger payouts as you climb higher.

In the Stayin’ Alive bonus, a ball with a number determines how many steps you move up the ladder. But that’s not the only ball to look out for. If a black ball pops up, all players lose a life. If the black ball appears four times during the round, you lose all four lives awarded to players when starting the bonus round. This means the bonus round will come to an end. As for the multipliers’ the lowest payout is 5x, which is Level 1. Level 2 offers 10x, Level 3 – 15x. . . Level 20 – 1000x. The payout is based on the previous multiplier on the ladder before a black ball is drawn.

And if you thought this was the last of this bonus round, you’re mistaken. You can add multipliers to the ladder thanks to the main game multiplier awarded by the disco ball in the main game. Therefore, if you hit a 3x multiplier, the lowest multiplier in the game will start at 15x while the highest will be 15,000x, but remember, the highest multiplier you can win here is 10,000x.

Funky Time payouts

The maximum amount you can win when you play Funky Time for real money is $500,000. But your bet type is the ultimate decider of how much you’ll take home, with the multiplier starting at 1x and capped at 10,000x. Furthermore, each bonus round allows you to win up to 10,000x.

Game statistics

If you’ve played other Evolution live game shows, you already know there’s a statistics section. Funky Time is not different, and this section is accessible via an icon at the bottom right of the game interface.

You can view the last 24 rounds of the game, and different boxes are represented by various colours for easy viewing. These boxes are labelled with a bonus round, Number 1, and a letter. You can also get deeper history by switching to 48 rounds, but you won’t see previously won multipliers in the statistics section.

Funky Time odds and RTP

The “1” has the highest number of segments on the wheel, with 28 out of 64. As a result, it has a higher probability of landing on the wheel at 43.75%, taking you about 2.28 spins on average to hit. It also has the highest RTP at 95.99%.

The letter bet has 24 segments on the wheel, and these letters spell out the words FUNK, PLAY, and Time. These segments give you a 37.50% winning chance. The RTP is slightly lower at 95.49%, and you stand to hit a letter after every 2.66 spins. Into the bonus rounds, the Bar Bonus has the highest number of segments on the wheel at 6. The probability of landing this bonus round is 9.375%, and the RTP is 95.98%. The average number of spins to hit is 10.66.

The Disco bonus has three segments on the wheel with a probability of 4.68%. It has a 95.51% RTP while the average number of spins to hit is 21.36. The Stayin Alive bonus has only two slots, with an RTP of 95.49% and a probability of 3.125%. You must wait for at least 32 spins on average to hit this slot.

Finally, there’s the VIP Disco bonus with only one slot on the wheel. That means it has the lowest probability of being triggered at 1.56%. Indeed, that also requires patience, with the average number of spins to hit at 64.10. The RTP is 95.38%.

Funky Time tips

Playing Funky Time online requires you to have a few tricks up your sleeve, even though this is a game of chance. Doing this allows you to increase your winning chances and eventually take home a tidy profit from your exploits. We dive into a few tips you can use as you play Funky Time for real money.

1

Martingale strategy

If you’ve played any game of chance, you know the Martingale strategy is a darling among players. The idea behind it is simple. You start by placing one bet on Number 1. If you lose, double your bet. If you lose again, double your previous bet. Do this until you strike a win; when you do, your initial bet will be the profit. The biggest downside of using this system is it can get expensive very fast. Therefore, it’s wise to start with small bets.

2

Low-risk strategy

In this strategy, the main objective is to reduce potential losses while accumulating small wins and building up your account. To do this, you must bet on the segments with the highest probability of showing up. Therefore, you want to bet on all letters in the words TIME, PLAY, and FUNK, and also bet on Number 1.

3

Bet on all bonuses and some non-bonus segments

This option will suit you well if you’re looking for a balanced approach to betting on Funky Time. The objective here is to bet on all bonus rounds and choose one of the non-bonus segments. By diversifying your wagers, you spread your risk and increase your winning potential. So, if you bet on the letters, you have a probability of (37.5%). Add the bonus rounds, and the overall win probability climbs to 56.24% after adding (18.74%).

Alternatives to Funky Time

Live Funky Time is not the first game show to use the Wheel of Fortune mechanic. Other games already went down this path, but each game’s implementation and gameplay differ. We explore these aspects and put them against each other while comparing them to Funky Time Evolution.

  • Dream Catcher

    Dream Catcher

Dream Catcher is one of the most visually appealing live game shows, with simple gameplay. You must predict on which segment the wheel will stop. The wheel is divided into 54 segments, each with a multiplier based on the marked number. That’s all. The game may be simple to play, but this is also a drawback regarding payouts. They are rather modest compared to their counterparts since 40x is the highest multiplier. Furthermore, there are no bonus rounds to increase your winning chances. Your best bet is to land one of the two multipliers on the wheel (2x and 7x). However, the RTP is quite high (96.58%) compared to Funky Time’s 95.99%.

  • Mega Wheel

    Mega Wheel

Pragmatic Play’s Mega Wheel is similar to Dream Catcher, Funky Time, and Monopoly Live because there’s a wheel involved. And just like Dream Catcher, there are 54 segments, each marked with a number. Your job is to predict which segment the wheel will stop on. The most significant difference here is the maximum multiplier value and how they are assigned.

In Dream Catcher, the multipliers are the segments on the wheel, and you can hit 40x if you land the number 40. But in Mega Wheel, the multipliers are assigned to the numbers before the wheel gets spun. Plus, the highest multiplier value is 500x. The game’s optimal RTP is 96.51%, again higher than Funky Time’s, with no bonus rounds.

  • Monopoly Live

    Monopoly Live

Also, by Evolution, Monopoly Live is a variation of the Wheel of Fortune game Dream Catcher. It also features a 54-segment wheel, but of these segments, 48 are marked with only four numbers (1, 2, 5, and 10). The remaining six segments make the game worthwhile and different from other game shows in this line. There are ‘CHANCE’ segments that offer instant cash and multipliers. Then you have the ‘2ROLLS’ and ‘4ROLLS’ segments that trigger a captivating bonus round where players navigate a virtual Monopoly board to collect prizes.

  • Crazy Time

    Crazy Time

Again, Crazy Time features a 54-segment wheel and is an Evolution production. These segments provide players with eight betting options. The gameplay is simple. Players must place their wagers on which segment they believe the wheel will stop on. The presenter will then spin the wheel, and if the wheel stops on your predicted spot, you will receive a payout attached to that segment.

These segments include numbers (1, 2, 5, and 10) and four bonus rounds (Crazy Time, Pachinko, Cash Hunt, and Coin Flip). Furthermore, the game includes a two-reel slot that spins along the main wheel. This happens before every round and comes with multipliers that can reach 50x.

  • Lightning Roulette

    Lightning Roulette

If you’ve played traditional European Roulette, you should easily fit in here. However, Lightning Roulette comes with several twists in its gameplay. The most striking and exciting twist is the inclusion of multipliers that boost your payout. The multipliers range from 50x to 500x and are applied to one to five numbers generated randomly after players place their wagers.

Conclusion

A thrilling game of chance. Simple to play. Nostalgic. This is what characterises Funky Time. And on top of that, you have many betting options (17 in total), including exciting bonus rounds to ensure you have more to win. But what will catch your attention even before playing is the 70’s disco theme that will get you in the groove. Add the big payouts, and you have a live game show that ticks all boxes. Overall, you can try Funky Time in Indian online casinos, and we believe it will leave a lasting positive impression. However, whether this will be enough to topple other Wheel of Fortune games remains to be seen.
